And if you already own one version, you get the other for free.

To play Minecraft on PC has been a two-part experience – literally, because the game is divided into two separate versions: Java and Bedrock. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages, such as modding and performance, but the biggest crux is that you can only play with others who have the same version as yourself, and the two versions must be purchased separately. But not anymore.

In a blog posts Mojang announces that the two versions will be sold in a package by name from today Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC. If you already own one of the versions, the other will be added automatically and for free to your account in Minecraft Launcher. However, they warn that it may take 2-3 days before everyone can see the extra game in the launcher.

The games will thus continue to be separate, but now you do not have to buy the two versions separately to be able to play them.
