IT House June 7 news, AMD China announced that it has reached a chip supply cooperation with Weilai. According to this, AMD will supply chips for NIO’s electric vehicles.
It is understood that NIO will use AMD’s EPYC (Xiaolong) series processors in its high-performance computing platform to help accelerate AI deep learning training, save costs and shorten product development cycles.
but,AMD chips will only be used in NIO’s automotive research and development, not in automotive production, which means that AMD chips will not be introduced in cars.
IT House learned that AMD said,EPYC processors can help in CAE simulation, design and testing of CFD fluid mechanics, structural simulation, crash simulation, etc.. “With the help of AMD EPYC, the NIO HPC platform can handle about 240 simulation tasks per day, a year-on-year increase of 50%. The server procurement cost will be reduced by 30-40% year-on-year, and the TCO savings in the next 3-5 years is expected to exceed 50% will further shorten the vehicle R&D cycle, bring new vehicles to market faster, drive business growth, and drive the future.”
