With the approach of the next big events that are the Summer Game Fest and the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase in particular, Square Enix has simply confirmed that a new Just Cause is in preparation, without specifying if it is indeed Avalanche Studios which is at the helm. As a reminder, the Swedish studio recently posted a job offer in which it mentions an “AAA in the open world”: a description that could perfectly correspond to a new Just Cause.
After the sale of huge franchises such as Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Thief, one could worry about the future of Western licenses from the Japanese publisher, but it seems that Square Enix wants to continue promoting all of these franchises. since the last report presented to investors states that Just Cause will remain the intellectual property of the company.
Although we do not know how long the game has been in production, there is little chance that it will be presented at the Summer Game Fest since Avalanche Studios should rather focus on Contraband, their other project developed in cooperation with Xbox Games Studios and coming exclusively to PC and Xbox Series X|S.
