In the past few days, Google services have become very slow in Russia – search engine, maps, mail, YouTube, Google Photos, Google Docs and everything else. The problem is not related to the blocking by Roskomnadzor, it is much more fundamental.

At the end of May, Google turned off part of its Global Cache servers in Russia. This equipment accelerated the exchange of traffic between Russian telecom operators. Simply put, the data was cached in Russia and transferred from user to user within the country, rather than being requested each time from foreign servers. In practice, this led to a significant increase in the speed of Google sites and applications.

Russian telecom operators have stated that disabling Global Cache will not affect the speed of traffic delivery from Google resources. However, they seem to have underestimated the situation, since the result of this shutdown is now observed throughout Russia, because the query “Google is not loading” has become very popular in Yandex in recent days (where else if Google is not working). As a conditional solution, you can recommend using VPN services, but these services are blocked in Russia, as a result of which they work slowly, unstable and intermittently.
