In order to visit the Greybeards in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, you have to undertake an arduous journey. It’s a whopping 7,000 steps to the monastery of High Hrothgar! At least that’s what the clever residents say. A player did not want to believe this statement and counted exactly. The old gentlemen must have lied.

Skyrim: The Greybeards lied to you

The main quest of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim will inevitably lead you to the Greybeards at some point. Old wise men who sit on the neck of the world in their foreclosed monastery and practice their dragon screams. Getting to them is not exactly easy. It’s a snowy pilgrimage path used by the denizens of Skyrim as well “The 7,000 Steps” is called.

The Reddit userEmergency_Paperclip became suspicious here. 7,000 levels? That sounds a bit exaggerated. So he decided to count it up and came to the conclusion: There are actually only 719 steps.

Skyrim fan has an explanation in store

Of course there is snow on the pilgrimage path and some of the steps have suffered quite a bit over time. It is therefore quite possible that the fan has overlooked some stages. Nevertheless, one thing is certain: there are certainly not 7000 steps. Has anyone here lied about the way to their own monastery? make it look longer and more epic?

Of the Reddit user ravindu2001 has another explanation. Skyrim was shrunk due to the technical limitations of the time. For example, an in-game book would describe the path between Riften and Whiterun, which would probably last almost a year. In Skyrim itself, of course, the route can be covered in a much shorter time. This could also explain how 7,000 steps become a little more than 700.
