Announced in 2019, Genshin Impact was released on many devices and seems far from the “drama” it caused when it was announced.

At the time and from the first trailer, fans noticed that the game looks a lot like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Some claim it is more plagiarism than homage. The opening of the presented game looks almost exactly like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Object management is also very similar. Your main character can climb, but is limited by a stamina gauge. The enemies of the game hide in buildings extremely similar to those where the Bokoblins hang around waiting for Link. The comparisons didn’t stop there. During ChinaJoy 2019, Genshin Impact was announced for release on PS4, which drove some fans over the edge. Some Switch owners publicly protested the game’s announcement, via the world’s most notorious hand sign. There was even a man who busted his PS4 during the announcement! It won’t change the game’s release on PS4 of course, but it’s quite surprising to see a blowback of this level happening, especially in a country (China) where the game hasn’t been released (at least). the time of the announcement), the Nintendo Switch not yet being distributed. Turnaround just after, the publisher having announced the release of the game also on Nintendo Switch for 2020, but without saying anything more since then. In 2022, the game was thought to be canceled or development not even started on Nintendo Switch. The game has since been available on a number of platforms and there are also many positive feedbacks on this F2P Gacha which finally has a universe of its own.

As the years have passed since the initial reveal, Switch owners have begun to wonder if Genshin Impact will ever come to us. In recent weeks, those fears have grown, as a handful of official Genshin Impact trailers didn’t mention the Switch in the YouTube description. This mention was later added to the descriptions, but did little to allay fan fears. In an attempt to clear up the confusion, Gonintendo.com contacted publisher/developer miHoYo to try to clear things up. The company has agreed to provide a statement confirming the Switch version to the US site.

“The Switch version is still under development, and we will release more information as we progress. -Xin Yang, Global PR Specialist, miHoYo

It’s quite little and direct, but it at least confirms that “commercially” or “politically”, the game still seems to be in the process of being ported.
