The Mausoleum of the First has not only become a first-class raid in my opinion – many other players are of the same opinion. The bosses are well designed, fun and challenging. You can’t necessarily say that about all content in WoW: Shadowlands. However, the developers seem to have overdone it a bit, especially when it came to the keyword “challenging”. In the first few weeks the bosses were so hard that the World First Race dragged on for many weeks and again prompted some top guilds to drop out.
Since then, hardly a week has passed without us have seen various boss nerfs in the form of hotfixes. What looked reasonable at the beginning now seems very bizarre. Many bosses are only a shadow of themselves and have little to do with the original version. And that stinks – in my eyes.
Why all the nerfs?
In terms of balancing, the developers designed the bosses in the mausoleum from the start so that the players not only have a decent item level, but also have two Legendaries and the 4-piece set bonuses. So it was logical that it would be extremely tough, especially in the first few weeks.

However, the devs probably expected this power gain to be higher and had to make a whole series of adjustments afterwards. This is understandable and understandable. However, they have long since missed the mark. The middle bosses in particular had to take such hard nerfs that there is hardly any increase in difficulty in the front part of the raid. If you look at the kill numbers in normal and heroic mode, you can see that almost every guild that gets past the first boss also kills the next six bosses straight away. Only with Anduin does the difficulty increase noticeably.
You can also nerf bosses dead…
… and that’s exactly what the developers are currently doing in my eyes. And that just doesn’t feel good. There are two possibilities, both of which lead to frustration.
- If the boss is nerfed hard after your own kill, you will be frustrated because you have made an unnecessary effort and now everything is much easier.
- If the boss is nerfed before the kill, you get frustrated because it feels like a second-rate kill and thus quite unsatisfactory.
However, I can understand that further nerfs make sense.

For one thing, the differences between players with Legendaries and Set Bonuses compared to others are immense. And Blizzard also wants to enable these poorly equipped WoW players to make further progress.
On the other hand, the time of power gain is over for many guilds. Anyone who is already wearing set bonuses and double legendary can only marginally strengthen their character in the coming weeks – no matter how much time they invest. So that these players and groups don’t nibble on a boss for weeks, Blizzard has to intervene. But isn’t there another way?
Let’s continue on page 2 – Yes, it could be done differently!
