The developer of the total conversion mod Total Chaos for Doom 2 wants to program a standalone version – even with the Unreal Engine 5. The development will take a few more years.

Total Chaos: Standalone is actually a total conversion mod for Doom 2 that runs on the GZDoom source port and was released back in 2018. However, the responsible mod developer recently revealed that he has been working on a remaster of the modification in recent years. This remaster, on the other hand, uses the new Unreal Engine 5 and is scheduled to appear as a standalone version.

Rooted with Unreal Engine 5: New life sign from survival game

The developer has already published three screenshots of his standalone game via Twitter. Dark and eerie scenes can be seen on it. A dim basement with decaying walls, a mine camp polluted by blood and corpse remains, and a misty, steep seacoast.

What is Total Chaos: Standalone about?

With Total Chaos: Standalone, the developer wants to offer players a total of six chapters. The opposition is quite manageable with eight terrible fiends, but you should be able to defend yourself against these creatures with a large number of weapons. The developer promises many new graphical features. Pixelated 2D sprites, for example, have of course given way to fully fledged, modern 3D models with high-resolution textures.

Total Chaos: Standalone belongs to the survival horror genre and is set on a deserted island called Fort Oasis. The island was once run by a community of miners who suddenly disappeared one day, leaving behind an abandoned concrete jungle now left to rot forlornly. But something bad happened at this place. When the protagonist arrives at Fort Oasis, he receives a strange radio message asking for help. There is no concrete release date yet, but according to the developer, it should still take a few years to develop.
