Google has acquired microLED display startup Raxium to create new gadgets and services.

Raxium is developing ultra-compact, low-power, high-resolution displays, so Google may release new virtual or augmented reality glasses in the near future. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Google has acquired Raxium, an innovator in single-panel microLED display technology. The Raxium team has spent five years building miniaturized, low-cost, energy-efficient, high-resolution displays that have laid the foundation for future display technologies,” said Rick Osterloh, Google’s senior vice president of gadgets and services.
