In some cases, Microsoft will automatically roll back flawed Windows updates to the previous version. But in most cases, users need to uninstall the update patch that caused the bug to fix the problem. Since the appearance of the 22H2 version, every Win11 user can experience a simpler operating experience.

How to uninstall Windows 11 updates

How you uninstall/roll back Windows Update depends on the version of Windows you are currently using. The initial version of Windows 11 (21H2) had the ability to remove the update from the Control Panel, while in the new 22H2 version it was possible to remove the update directly from the settings.

IT Home has learned that Microsoft does not allow users to remove some Windows 11 updates, including Surface firmware, nor uninstall drivers or BIOS updates.

Here’s how to uninstall Windows 11 updates on Windows 11 21H2 (build 22000):

Open Settings and go to Windows Update > Update History.

Find and click Uninstall Updates. It’s worth mentioning that clicking this button will open the old control panel for you.

Once the Control Panel pops up, you just need to select the updates you want to remove in Windows 11 and click Uninstall.

Afterwards, you need to confirm the uninstallation and wait for it to complete. It’s worth noting that removing installed updates in Windows 11 requires a system restart, so be sure to save your open work and close all apps.

How to uninstall Windows 11 Update (22H2 and later)

Press Win + I or use any method to open the Settings app, such as right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Settings.

It also requires you to go to Windows Update > Update History.

Below the update history, you can find the “Uninstall Updates” button. Just click.

Find the update you want to remove and click the “Uninstall” button next to it.

Confirm the removal of the Windows 11 update by clicking “Uninstall” on the new popup.

Once done, just wait for Windows 11 to finish and reboot.
