IT House June 5 news, Hyundai’s Avikus subsidiary said it has completed the world’s firstTransoceanic autonomous navigation of large ships.

The vessel, named Prism Courage, left Freeport in the Gulf of Mexico on May 1 and uses Avikus’ AI-powered HiNAS 2.0 system Level 2 Autonomous DrivingTowards the Boryeong LNG Terminal in Chungcheong City, Western Korea, completed approximately 12,427 miles (19999.32 km) ofhalf range.

Avikus claims that HiNAS’s optimal routing improves the Prism Courage’s fuel efficiency by about 7 percent and reduces emissions by 5 percent.

IT House understands that the voyage is not completely crewless, the autopilot has only completed half of the voyage, the other half still requires manual navigation, and most of the route is in the open sea, which brings additional challenges in docking and congested waterways.

Avikus plans tobefore the end of the yearCommercializing HiNAS 2.0, the company also hopes its L2 autonomous driving will alleviate crew shortages, improve safety and reduce the environmental impact of maritime transport. The company also wants to bring this kind of navigation to recreational boats, not just giant merchant ships.
