Google bought company Raxium, which develops MicroLED displays. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.
Raxium has been working for five years to create energy-efficient screens with high resolution and good color reproduction. The company claims that it is “five times more efficient than any world record” in terms of energy efficiency.
The distance between pixels in AMOLED screens in modern smartphones is about 50 microns. In Raxium displays, this figure is 3.5 microns.
Raxium technologies could be used in Google’s future augmented and virtual reality glasses. The entire Raxium team will join Google’s Devices and Services division. [The Verge]
