After 2K Games and the “World of Tanks” makers from Wargaming announced that they would not be appearing at Gamescom 2022 this year, the next prominent cancellation followed. As announced at the end of the week, Nintendo will not be part of the party this year either.
After Gamescom could only take place in a digital setting due to the Corona crisis, Europe’s leading video games trade fair will return to the public in 2022.
This year, those responsible for the Koelner Messe are relying on a hybrid concept. In 2022, players will not only be offered various online events such as the “Opening Night Live” produced and moderated by Geoff Keighley. Thanks to an extensive hygiene and safety concept, the gaming community can also be there themselves and play numerous upcoming highlights themselves.
However, we will have to do without a Nintendo stand this year. As a spokesman for the traditional Japanese company confirmed to Gameswirtschaft.de, Nintendo will forego Gamescom in 2022 and instead focus on regional events.

“Gamescom is a key event in the event calendar for Nintendo. This year, however, after careful consideration, we decided against participating in Cologne. Instead, players can try out the games for Nintendo Switch at numerous Germany-wide events. Events that have been planned so far include road shows with our Airstreamer and our Bulli, for example at locations such as the SWR Summer Festival and the Stuttgart Children and Youth Festival,” said a spokesman for Nintendo.
“For the Japan and video game fans, we have decided to take part in the Main Matsuri Japan Festival in Frankfurt, DoKomi in Düsseldorf and Animagic in Mannheim. More tour stops and promotions are being planned.”
