Audio Pro A38 is a pair of floor-standing speakers intended for use in television and music. These are a pair of seemingly ordinary stereo speakers. No surround, no atmosphere or other hocus pocus function. What it has in batch and minute, on the other hand, is very good sound.

Rating 4.5 out of 5

Opinion

We like these! After years of new features and in some cases gimmicks, we draw a sigh of relief to see two speakers that have a job to do as well: deliver good sound. No atmosphere, no surround, just good sound and easy installation. What more is needed than that?

Positively

  • Easy installation
  • Very good sound
  • Good looking

Movie sound is important, but the fact is that a soundbar, even an atmos-equipped one, does not have the same stereo spread as a pair of speakers that can be placed at four meter intervals (so long is the speaker cord included).

The A38 is an active speaker. One speaker houses most of all electronics, including a digital class D amplifier that can deliver 2 x 75 watts. The same speakers have inputs for hdmi, optical and rca connection.

The installation itself is simple. It took about four minutes including unpacking the speakers. What you need is a phone to connect them to your wifi. You do not even need to download the Audio Pro app. But we recommend that you do this if you want to be able to tinker with the sound settings.

What a sound!

To the big question: How do they sound? Well, in short, amazingly good. The differences between a pair of speakers and a soundbar are huge. First, the sound is better. Second, soundbars always struggle to get to the midrange. It is the rule rather than the exception that those frequencies have cold and loud sounds. So not here. The sound that washes over you is warm, rich, nuanced and pleasant, even at higher volumes. Also something that soundbars have problems with.

In terms of use, there is not much to talk about. Despite their size, they are not conspicuous. The design is sparse, which makes it timeless, which in turn gives it a look that makes it fit into most living rooms. The speakers are 83.2 centimeters high, 19 centimeters wide and have a depth of 21 centimeters. They weigh 7.5 kilos each.

When we play music, even a sensitive subject for soundbars, the A38 sounds incredible. We played rock, rap and finally contemporary classical music, where the dynamics are really put to the test, with brilliant results.

The A38 also supports Spotify Connect, Google Home and Airplay 2. They also have a multi-room function, either through Google Home, Airplay or Audio Pro’s own format, Multiroom Audio Pro. They can play various audio formats, such as Apple lossless, mp3, wma (does anyone use that format nowadays?), Aac and flac. Other bonus features are that you can plug in a vinyl player, as long as it has a riaa amplifier. We like!

Less is more

It’s easy to stare blindly at features like atmosphere and surround sound when there are simpler solutions

which sounds much better. This is one such solution. You have to pay around SEK 9,000 for a pair of A38s. It’s a lot of money, but on the other hand you get a pair of speakers that sound good no matter what you throw at them. Should we whine about something – and we should – is that the base could have a little more pressure. On the other hand, it is possible to connect a subwoofer via rca and thus get as much bass as you like. Our guess is that the majority will still be happy with the sound. We are definitely white!

Apart from this, it is final. High rating! And we highly recommend it.
