With the introduction of improved widgets, Apple Music for Android is getting a powerful in-app sleep timer.

About APK Insight: In this “APK Insight” post, we have decompiled the latest version of the app uploaded by Google in the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs in the case of Android apps), we can see various lines of code inside that hint at possible future features. Please be aware that Google may or may not ever provide these features, and our interpretation of what they are may not be perfect. However, we will try to include those near completion to show you what they will look like if submitted. With this in mind, read on.

To access, open Now Playing in Apple Music and tap the drop-down menu (three dots) next to the song/artist name. “Sleep timer” is a new option at the end of this list with time increments ranging from 15 minutes to 1 hour. Once selected, a countdown is displayed when returning to the menu and is retained across selections.

There is also “When the current song ends” and “When the current album ends”, as well as “When the current playlist ends”. The toast confirms your choice, and you can quickly disable the sleep timer at any time.

Version 3.10 of Apple Music also has lines for two additional sleep timer options:

When will the current episode end?

In our use of the app this morning, we haven’t come across “Show” or “Episode” yet, even when listening to Apple Music 1 live or recorded. In these cases, you only get fixed increments. On iPhone and iPad, the sleep timer is part of the system Clock app. The options offered on Android are much wider than on iOS, as well as faster access to direct in-app access.

Meanwhile, Apple also seems to have made changes to the widgets in this release to improve their stability, especially when resizing.

You can subscribe to the Apple Music beta through the Play Store, and this sleep timer should be on the stable channel in a few weeks.
