Apple not only likes to share good reasons why the App Store should be the only way to distribute apps to the iPhone, but it also feels a bit like they have to. Many developers and authorities are currently pushing for Apple to do something to let go of some control over its operating system. At least Apple now wants to tell you how many scams you stop by having full control over the distribution of apps via the App Store. Here are some statistics from last year provided by Apple:
“- Apple protected customers from nearly $ 1.5 billion in potentially fraudulent transactions and stopped over 1.6 million risky and vulnerable apps and app updates from tricking users.
Over 835,000 problematic new apps and another 805,000 app updates were rejected or removed by Apple’s app review team.
– The app review team rejected more than 34,500 apps because they contained hidden or undocumented features, and up to 157,000 apps were rejected because they turned out to be spam, copied or misleading users, such as manipulating them to make a purchase.
– Efforts to circumvent app review by creating an app that is displayed in a way, only to change its concept or function once approved, led to the removal of over 155,000 apps from the App Store.
– The app review team rejected over 343,000 apps because they requested more user data than necessary or for incorrect handling of data they had already collected. “

Apple: It works well for smaller developers

The App Store employs 96,000 in Sweden

Both Apple and Google are under attack from several quarters, including the EU and the US have had them under scrutiny for a while. Last in line is India calling both the App Store and the Play Store “siloed monopolies”. The accusation is that of course there are two big deals and not one so for the user there are choices, but for the developers it is just to like the rules that have been set up by Google and Apple if you are to reach those users. The pressure has meant that the rules are constantly being adjusted and so far it is to the benefit of both developers and users. Some of the people who have benefited from the changes are those who have apps that are not that big. Apple classifies a small developer as someone who has an app that exists and is actually downloaded, but the revenue is less than $ 1 million per year or you have less than one million downloads per year. This group has received the share of revenue that Apple takes reduced from 30 to 15 percent. Apple focuses a lot on this group to show that the App Store is certainly thriving and that new apps and new companies are certainly emerging in the app world. According to a new survey commissioned by Apple but not conducted by Apple, it has been concluded that those who were active in the App Store 2019 have increased their revenue by 113 percent in the last two years. Developers from Europe like to hang in this category, as many as 24 percent of the smaller developers are from Europe. One reason for this may be that we are a lot of small markets and it is difficult as a European to become big. Something that indicates that smaller developers have a hard time getting big is that only 40 percent of the downloads of an app developed by a smaller developer come from abroad. The Americans seem to think that it is a lot, as a Swede I would have hoped that there was more. Regardless of an interesting figure. In Sweden, the ecosystem around the App Store will employ 96,000 people, which is an increase of 10 percent compared to two years ago.
