The long-awaited cross-play feature will soon be tested for FIFA 22. The option will indeed be evaluated in “the near future” according to EA, which will therefore allow Playstation and Xbox players to compete online. However, it will only be a match in the Seasons and friendly match modes, FUT not being affected by this novelty.
For the American publisher, it is above all a question of working in stages. EA indeed justifies the limit to these two game modes by the bugs that this could generate on FIFA. Caution is therefore called for, especially since the firm could be tempted to integrate the cross-play option from the launch of FIFA 23 later this year according to multiple sources.
As for FIFA 22, players will be able to choose whether or not to enable this feature. From the main menu or in the matchmaking options, a new entry will appear. This will therefore make it possible to open up online dating to players from other platforms if that is your wish. Note in passing that only Playstation 5, Xbox Series X | S and Stadia are affected by this development. An indicator will also be present on the screen to indicate from which version you and your opponent are playing.
Finally, this test phase could be extended to other modes in the future. If everything works perfectly and FIFA users are satisfied with this new feature, it’s a safe bet that FUT will go to the Cross-Play mill as well. He also from the launch of FIFA 23 ? This will be confirmed in the coming months for EA!
