The European Commission has announced its claims against Apple because of the Apple Pay payment system. This is reported by MacRumors with reference to the commission’s website.

The European Union has officially announced that it has published a Statement of Objections to Apple. This document concerns the features of Apple Pay, or rather the restrictions that the company has put into its mechanisms. According to the European Commission, Apple deliberately limits competition in the field of mobile payments and payment services on the iPhone.

“The European Commission has informed Apple of its preliminary opinion on the abuse of dominance in mobile wallet markets for iOS devices. By restricting access to the standard technology used for contactless payments by mobile devices in stores (“Near-Field Communication (NFC)” or “tap and go”), Apple limits competition in the mobile wallet market on iOS

The fact is that, unlike Android, iOS allows you to use the NFC contactless payment module with only one system – native Apple Pay. No other payment system can work on “apple” devices, for example, the same Mir Pay, which successfully functions on Android smartphones.

Representatives of the European Commission believe that free access to NFC for third-party applications is a necessary requirement for the development of payment services. According to officials, the development of new electronic wallets may be simply unprofitable for developers if their product cannot work on iOS.

Such claims against Apple by the European Union are clearly beneficial for the Russians. Earlier, the company withdrew their support for MIR cards, which started working with Apple Pay more than a year ago. If the authorities can force Apple to open access to NFC for third-party applications, then users with Russian bank cards will again be able to use mobile payments.
