iOS 15 is approaching 90% adoption rate more than 250 days after release and nearly a year after Apple first unveiled the update at WWDC 2021, according to mobile device analysis firm Mixpanel.

By data companies, at the time of writing, the iOS 15 adoption rate is 88.9%, up nearly 10% from ten weeks ago. Mixpanel bases its numbers on tracking visits to apps and websites that use its mobile analytics SDK, so the numbers aren’t entirely accurate. Apple last provided iOS 15 rollout data in January, stating that 72% of iPhones released in the past four years are running the latest version of iOS.

iOS 15 received a lower adoption rate than iOS 14, partly due to the fact that the update was relatively small in size, and also because users encountered a number of bugs when they first launched the update. iOS 15 has improved some of the system apps, introducing an updated Do Not Disturb system, focus mode, Live Text, and more.

Apple will unveil iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 next week during WWDC starting Monday, June 6th. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the update is expected to be significant for users. Bloomberg reported that Apple plans to redesign the lock screen, improve stock apps, add new ways to interact with the system, and more. Apple also plans to make significant changes to iPadOS to make it more Mac-like.
