While preparing the transition from the metaverse, the Meta group is preparing new virtual and augmented reality headsets which will constitute gateways to this new virtual universe.

Several projects are underway, from Project Cambria virtual reality headset Project Nazare of augmented reality glasses. According to the site The Information, no less than four helmets would be planned by 2024.

The Project Cambria (Arcata internal codename) will be a high-end product sitting above the Quest series of VR headsets. Its launch is scheduled for September 2022 and an evolution, code name Funston, will then be offered in 2024.

Its price will be $800well beyond the 300 to 400 dollars of the VR Quest headsets, with the advantage of high definition screens allowing easy reading of text and a power equivalent to an entry-level PC, all with a version of Android customized by Meta.

It will also offer a large battery and will have external cameras to perform augmented reality.

The Quest virtual reality headsets will not be forgotten and two models are listed in the roadmap, Stins and Cardiff, with launches planned for 2023 and 2024.

Project Nazare and the lighter version Hypernova are not expected before 2024, as is the bracelet with EMG (differential electromyography) sensor to manipulate virtual objects by thought.

While Nazare will operate autonomously, Hypernova will need the power of a smartphone. Upgrades to Nazare are then scheduled for 2026 and then 2028.
