On June 10th, 2022 the new horror game The Quarry from the creators of Until Dawn will be released. In the game you experience an interactive horror film alone or with friends. What is new, however, is that you can also choose to have three lives per character. Is that a break in style for the series?
New feature outsmarts virtual death
Update from 05/02/22:
Will Byles, the executive director for the upcoming horror game The Quarry, has some information about the new one Death rewind system revealed.
The new system gives each character three lives. If a beloved character dies due to a bad decision during the game, the player can undo death and make a different decision this time.
This system seems a bit strange at first, after all it is precisely the irreversible consequences that make these games so special. However, Byles gives the all-clear: the death-rewind system is not available from the startbut will only be activated after the credits.
Unless you buy them Digital Deluxe Edition. Then you can already fall back on more than one life on your first pass.
By the way, With the new system Byles wants to ensure that the players can try out all the possibilities of the game more easily – without having to reload entire sections.
Original message from 04/28/22:
The Quarry: Story with 186 endings
The next big horror game from the creators of Until Dawn promises a diverse gaming experience. The story of The Quarry should be able to end in a total of 186 different ways, according to developer Supermassive Games in an interview with IGN.
In it, Will Byles, head of the horror game, explains that currently films about 50 pages of script a day. In order not to get confused with the many storylines, the team divides the decisions into big and small ones. According to Byles, big decisions have one strong influence on the further story, while small decisions affect the plot less, but give more depth to the nine main characters. Altogether that is Script over 1,000 pages long. (Source: IGN)
For comparison, the script for Detroit Become Human, Quantic Dream’s most recent game, is about 2,000 pages long. According to studio head David Cage, it took the team a year to write the story and another year to film. (Source: YouTube – gameslice)
Anyone who likes horror games and hasn’t played the predecessor Until Dawn should do so as soon as possible:
186 ends does not necessarily mean 186 ends
In Detroit Become Human, the player can influence the course of the story in the last chapters in such a way that not only the endings are very different, but also the last playable levels of the game. Will The Quarry’s finale be of similar or even greater scope?
Can’t answer that right now, but the suggestion that there should be 186 endings, and that’s for a shorter script than Detroit Become Human, suggests that there might be many ends will differ only minimally. Means: If figure 1 survives in one end and figure 2 in the other, then it’s actually the same in green. And with nine playable characters, The Quarry can Raise the ends artificially.
That doesn’t have to mean that there aren’t several endings that differ greatly from each other – just don’t get too excited about 186 endings.
