Electronic Arts will soon be testing the crossplay feature in FIFA 22, but with some caveats.

On the website of the game gives details about the test, which should start “in the near future”.

Not on all platforms

One limitation is that non-players can participate on all platforms. The crossplay test is limited to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Google Stadia. Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC are therefore left out.

Furthermore, the crossplay function can only be tried out in the Online Seasons and Online Friendslies modes; this is not initially possible in Ultimate Team mode.

The website is probably not expected to expand this test to FUT or other modes for the time being.

More FIFA 22 news:

“While we want to give our players the opportunity to play with as many friends and other players as possible, we limited the test to these two modes to reduce the likelihood of new problems appearing in the game,” it says.

“We’re confident that the game data and feedback we’re getting from these two modes will help guide how cross-play can be further implemented in future titles.”

The matches run as usual, normally you shouldn’t notice much of the crossplay. Once the crossplay test begins, you can toggle this feature on and off in the matchmaking settings.
