During the first months of the Covid-19 pandemic, very strict measures were taken by some companies to prevent the spread of the virus among employees. This still seems to be the case at Tesla, which is said to have isolated thousands of employees in a former military camp in China.

It’s no secret: China has imposed very strict measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19. And in the face of the Chinese government’s quarantine requirements, Tesla has reportedly decided to impose a dormitory system to ensure the isolation of its thousands of employees who work in the company’s Gigafactory south of Shanghai. According to a report by Bloombergthese employees will thus be housed in a former military camp and disused factories at least until June 13.

As you would expect, the facilities in these places would be quite spartan. According to anonymous sources, employees who stay in these dormitories will have to use portable toilets and showers. In addition to having to live virtually at their workplace, quarantined employees at Tesla will have to work a grueling 12-hour, six-day-a-week schedule. If this information can be shocking, it should be known that before the establishment of this dormitory system, the employees had to sleep on the floor in the enclosure of the factory.

If Tesla has taken such drastic measures, it is to catch up on its huge production backlog after the three-week closure of its factory at the end of March.
