Six months ago, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said that the semiconductor shortage would last until at least 2023, now he believes that the shortage can continue into 2024. This is what he tells CNBC:
– We believe the overall semiconductor shortage will now drift into 2024, from our earlier estimates in 2023, just because the shortages have now hit equipment and some of those factory ramps will be more challenged.

Even though it sounds really bad, it does not mean that there is a shortage of all types of chips at the same time, some industries do better than others, Intel, for example, has done relatively well and now says that for the first time in several years is close to meeting demand.

One of the big problems is, as Gelsinger says, that those who build equipment for chip factories do not have time to deliver, Digitimes has recently reported that suppliers of chip manufacturing equipment now have more than 18 months delivery time, last year that time was six months.

Volkswagen: The semiconductor problem will not end until 2024

Attans

All industries have been affected by the semiconductor shortage. Many producers have been forced to stop production because they simply lack important components, and some have sent the products away without certain functions. Car manufacturers are one of the industries that has been hit hard. Now the Volkswagen Group’s CFO Arno Antlitz says that the problems will probably not be over until 2024 – in two years. Then he thinks that the situation will return to normal. Those who manufacture the chip simply can not meet the huge demand and therefore there will also be very long waiting times for everything. It should get better next year but still not quite good.
