In April, we reported on a leak regarding what was said to be a new gateway called Dirigera for Ikea’s smart home. The leak turned out to be true, and Ikea has now confirmed that it is a new generation for the company’s investment in smart homes.

The new gateway unit will rightly be called Dirigera and will succeed the now five-year-old Wireless unit. The really big news is not only that Dirigera will have support for wifi, Zigbee and Thread protocols, but also for the new standard Matter which is created to make it easy to connect different ecosystems. Among other things, devices from Apple, Google, Amazon and Samsung will work together with Matter.

Conducting will also be powered by USB C charging.

You will also release a completely new app together with Dirigera, with which it will be possible to control the connected devices remotely.

Both Dirigera and the new app will be launched sometime in October.

Ikea also says that their current Wireless Gateway will not be updated with support for Matter, but that it will continue to receive updates for at least another three years.
