Meta comes to announce the launch of kidnapping alerts on Instagram. If a user is near where a kidnapping has occurred, they will now be able to find a special insert in their newsfeed. Important details will be specified such as a description of the child, the location of the abduction and a photo. Users can share the alert with their friends to help spread the message.

Instagram specifies that these alerts will be rare and specific to the search area. To locate you, the company will rely on various signals such as the city indicated on the profile, the IP address and location services if they are activated. These alerts have already existed on Facebook since 2015 in the United States, the platform broadcasting the ” AMBER Alert at the top of users’ newsfeed.

This function is currently being rolled out and will be launched in 25 countries, including Canada, the United States, England and Belgium. France is not on the list at the moment, but we can imagine that it will eventually happen: Instagram also specifies that it is seeking to extend this novelty to other countries.
