Apple Music is expanding its Latin music sector with its latest Miami rental. Juan Paz is the new Global Head of Latin Music at Apple Music. As reported by Billboard, this is a new position for the music streaming service, effective immediately.
In this role, Paz will lead the company’s global Latin American business and work with the Latin Music Partnership teams. Miami-based Apple is expanding its footprint in the city, where Paz will partner with established and emerging artists, indies, media partners, creative agencies and more.
Paz has many years of experience in managing Latin music and artists. Prior to joining Apple Music, Paz served as Managing Director at ADA, where he launched the Latin division from scratch. Prior to that, he managed digital marketing campaigns for the Sony region in Latin America and Latin Iberia, and for EMI in Latin America.
In addition to these roles, he has also managed Colombian artists such as Bomba Estereo and Monsieur Perine, as well as other Latin American artists.
According to the billboard:
Paz’s appointment to Apple Music is indicative of the company’s growing interest in further developing its Latin American business. Although Apple is a key player in the US Latin American market, its presence in Latin America is nowhere near as strong as Spotify, which has a large Latino division based in Miami and has long had offices in many Latin American countries.
Apple’s head of Latin artist relations, Marissa Lopez Gastelum, also moved to Miami last month as the company seeks to bolster its presence there. This is one of Apple’s many attempts to improve the platform and better compete with Spotify.
