After long months of waiting, Sonic Frontiers finally reveals its gameplay as it should. Enough to get a first impression of the game and it will not necessarily be good.

A few hours after a teaser that hyped some fans, IGN broadcast the first minutes of Sonic Frontiers gameplay. The blue hedgehog’s big turn in the open world may not be the one hoped for.

A first gameplay video for Sonic Frontiers

Awaited firmly by fans of the blue hedgehog, Sonic Frontiers finally shows what it has in the belly with nearly 7 minutes of gameplay. The opportunity to discover SEGA’s vision for this transition to the open world, where Sonic will explore a large region on the background of a few piano notes. We find the usual mechanics that allow the mascot to pick up speed to frolic at full speed, bumpersrings and some rails placed everywhere to climb towers faster.

The feeling of the teaser is confirmed a little more: this open world looks sadly empty and soulless. The artistic direction lacks color and cachet and the technical flaws are already visible. The clipping and display problems of certain elements punctuate this entire sequence of gameplay. We will obviously have to wait to have the game in hand to make a final opinion, but it could be a cold shower for those who were impatiently waiting for it. The most nostalgic can nevertheless turn to the Sonic Origins compilation which will arrive this June 23 on consoles and PC.
