In 20 years of existence in the video game segment, there is one market that Microsoft has never really succeeded in convincing: Japan.

Traditionally, Japan remains very introverted when it comes to video games and it is the local brands that are acclaimed by players: Sony, Nintendo, SEGA… A very difficult market to penetrate, Japan seems however to show proof of a bit of openness.

According to Famitsu, Microsoft is currently experiencing great success on the archipelago and sold more than 6,000 Xbox Series last week in the country.

Xbox Series S

An original situation for Microsoft, especially since the Xbox Series S would be ahead of the Series X. Over this week, the brand would have sold 566 Xbox Series X against 5,459 Series S. The Xbox Series X, however, dominates the market with 95,856 units sold in Japan vs. 88678 Series S, but the gap is narrowing and should reverse soon.

This is the first time that Microsoft has sold so many machines in Japan since 2010. But nothing to worry about Japanese brands since Nintendo has sold 24 million Switches in the country and Sony more than a million PS5s.
