Currently on tour to promote his autobiography Disrupting the Game: From the Bronx to the Top of Nintendo expected at our American friends May 3Reggie Fils-Aimé, the very popular former director of Nintendo of America (since replaced by Doug Bowser), returned to his life in a few anecdotes during the SXSW 2022. the SXSW acronym of South by Southwestis a festival celebrating music, film and interactive media held annually in Austin, Texas.

During his stint, which can be seen in full below, Reggie said he almost never worked for the Japanese firm, if he had only bothered to listen to his most trusted advisers. Here is what he says to justify the fears and reservations of these advisers when the opportunity to work for nintendo had been offered to him:

“Working for a Japanese company can be difficult in terms of cultural differences and how you approach business. Also, Nintendo was under commercial fire from Sony at the time with its PlayStation, of Microsoft. So I was advised not to take this role, but I saw something different. I saw an opportunity. I saw that the company had a legacy of innovation. All the things you take for granted in gaming systems today – joysticks, directional controllers – were all made first by Nintendo.
