Twitter Inc. employees are currently suffering from public comments from a future new boss, leadership changes and a hiring freeze after Elon Musk’s proposed acquisition. Twitter is restructuring its consumer products division, people familiar with the matter said. Some employees worry that the company may lay off workers.

Twitter executives told employees they planned to scale back resources on some long-term goals, including audio spaces, newsletters and communities, and instead focus on more pressing needs such as user growth and personalization, people familiar with the matter said. This means that many employees in Twitter’s consumer products division will be shuffled. “We’re making some updates to the structure and roadmap of our consumer products team to better focus on the areas that will have the greatest positive impact on the public conversation,” a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal fired the former head of product, letting Jay Sullivan take over. Currently, Sullivan is leading the restructuring effort. Employees speculated about layoffs, but Twitter said there were no layoffs planned.

Separately, the Twitter team is still working on an edit button feature, which it aims to release later this year, allowing users to edit tweets for a limited time after they’ve been sent. Moreover, the history of previous tweets can also be viewed.
