We have often reported about ScreenToGif. A small but great (also portable) tool to create screen recordings and videos from the desktop. You can then edit these recordings afterwards.

In the new version of ScreenToGif 2.37 there are again some improvements. A new gif encoder (KGy SOFT) has been integrated and it is now possible to export a video as AV1 in connection with FFmpeg. AV1 is the license-free compression, which is also supported by the browsers. But there are other changes as well.

  • New option to add a marker around the cursor when not clicking.
  • You can now set a delay for the manual and interactive recording modes.
  • language improvements
  • Corrections:
  • The arm64 variant did not start successfully (it now uses .NET 7, Preview 3).
  • Attempting to install FFmpeg along with the application failed due to some permissions issues (on a per-machine install).
  • The “Do not adjust” option for the “Reduce number of images” was ignored when the erasure factor was set to “1”.
  • The recorder didn’t show hours in the timer element (if it went beyond 59:59).

Anyone who starts ScreenToGif and has activated the update function will receive the update immediately. If you don’t know ScreenToGif yet and want to take a look:
