According to KoreaTimes, industry insiders revealed on Sunday that Samsung Display has decided to close its last 8.5-generation LCD TV panel production plant in June and officially withdraw from the LCD production business. With the rise of the panel business in mainland China, the LCD panel market has begun to be mainly occupied by domestic panel manufacturers. Samsung’s LCD panel production profits have been compressed. Samsung Display began to turn to AMOLED panels as its business core. Production lines are cut, shut down, sold or changed to produce other panels. It was originally planned that Samsung Display would officially launch the LCD business in 2020. However, the sudden outbreak of the epidemic has stimulated the rise of the home economy and stimulated the demand for TVs. In 2021, the demand for large-size LCD panels will rise, making LCD prices continue to rise. Therefore, Samsung Display’s parent company, Samsung Electronics required it to continue producing LCD panels to maintain panel supply for Samsung TVs. In May 2021, Samsung Display CEO said in a letter to employees that the company plans to delay LCD panel production until the end of 2022. However, since the beginning of this year, the demand of TV panel customers has been weak, and market research institutions said that LCD TV panels may fall below the current level in June.
