April 30, 2010: the first iPads with Wi-Fi, augmented by 3G, become available at US retailers. The model is sold in the same packaging as the previous generation version of the iPad with Wi-Fi, only an additional sticker indicates the ability to work with 3G. The tablets have an AT&T micro-SIM card that originally supported the iPad.

The first iPad was introduced by Steve Jobs in January 2010, and literally three months later the release of a new device that supports Wi-Fi and 3G was announced, and it went on sale.

iPad 3G: a powerful hit by Apple

By the time the iPad 3G was released, the device had every chance of becoming Apple’s best-selling new product of all time. Less than a month after the release, 1 million devices were sold, and within a year the number of iPads sold reached 25 million. These were quite impressive numbers, indicating the emergence of a successful new product category for Apple.

Even critics and competitors were forced to recognize the success of the line.

In terms of dimensions, the original iPad was 0.5 inches thick, weighed 1.5 pounds, and had a 9.7-inch multi-touch display. The tablet had an Apple A4 processor with a frequency of 1 GHz, worked on the operating version of iPhone OS 3.2. The flash memory could be expanded from 16 GB to 32 or 64 GB. There was a microphone and speaker, but no camera. Battery life was up to 10 hours in active mode and more than a month in standby mode.
