According to a Bloomberg report, the streaming platform Twitch wants to make changes to its partner program and at the same time to the revenue share of the top streamers. The latter could possibly be a flat 50/50 from the summer. In return, the streaming exclusivity on the platform is to be lifted, among other things.

Worrying changes could soon be upon the Twitch stars. Because one Bloomberg report According to Amazon’s streaming platform, it wants to make far-reaching changes to its affiliate program that would also affect revenue sharing between the service and the streamer.

Currently, Twitch plans to change revenue sharing among platform partners depending on the type of subscription. The ratio is 50/50 for a Tier 1 subscription, 60/40 for a Tier 2 subscription, and 70/30 for a Tier 3 subscription, always in favor of the streamer.

Soon more money for Twitch and less for top streamers?

That could soon change for the Twitch-streaming elite, as the service reportedly plans to flatten revenue share to a 50/50 ratio. This would not change anything for Twitch affiliates, since the revenue share for these is 50/50 for all subscription levels anyway. Twitch is also probably discussing changing the tier system so that several tiers are created, with criteria that streamers have to meet in order to qualify for these tiers.

Twitch also wants to create incentives for more ads to appear in streams. However, this has often met with criticism, especially on the viewer side, since the commercial breaks start in the middle of the stream, which continues while the commercial is being broadcast. Viewers miss “potentially important places” in live streams.

Twitch also accommodates the top streamers, who could fear losing part of their sales. Because it should then be allowed to no longer only have to stream exclusively on Twitch, but also to be able to use Google services such as YouTube or Facebook at the same time. According to Bloomberg, the innovations discussed by Twitch could even be implemented this summer. What’s clear is that these changes, should they come to pass, will benefit the streaming service more than its streamers, which shouldn’t be too surprising.
