It is not complicated to install an SSD on PS5. For Gao Wan, it is estimated that it is a must-do to get a few things at hand.

According to Sony’s official guidance document, the PS5 needs to meet several conditions to install an SSD, including a PCIe 4.0 x4 solid-state drive, compatible heat dissipation armor, and a recommended capacity of 250GB~4TB.

However, there are already larger-capacity SSDs on the market, so what will happen after breaking through 4TB?

SSD manufacturer Sabrent’s Rocket 4 Plus solid state drive is available in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 8TB capacities.1~4TB can be used on PS5 perfectly, but the problem behind plugging in 8T comes, the system prompts the user to shut down and install a compatible SSD product.

It seems that the PS5 can’t currently run SSDs over 4TB, but that’s more of a software issue than anything else. Sabrent said that it is expected that Sony will bring support for 8TB or even larger capacity PCIe 4.0 SSDs after subsequent firmware updates.

After all, the single capacity of the game is now tens of GB, plus the later DLC and other content, the large-capacity SSD can be said to be the more the better for hardcore players.
