Until now, developers could accidentally block their games from being installed on the Steam Deck. According to Valve, this bug has now been fixed.
With the Steam Deck, Valve has a handheld console on offer that should be suitable for as many Steam games as possible despite the lack of a DirectX interface ex works. That’s why a tweet on Tuesday caused a stir, according to which a game was blocked from being installed on the Steam Deck. Accordingly, the JRPG Demon Gauze Extra cannot be installed directly on the console via Steam. However, if you manually copied the relevant files to the console, the game ran without any problems.
Block by developer function
Valve has since responded to the issue and released a statement to the PC Gamer website. Accordingly, a developer function was responsible for the blocked installation, with which content can actually be distributed specifically for the Steam Deck. So far, however, it has also been possible for developers to accidentally mark all game files as unsuitable. This made it impossible to install on the Steam Deck.
“Prior to the launch of Deck, we added a feature that allows developers to mark certain content as only relevant to Deck customers. This would allow developers, for example, to automatically ship a different default graphics configuration on Deck. There was a technical issue with the way this feature was being delivered, and unfortunately some content was incorrectly flagged as the opposite (“Deliver this content to every non-Steam Deck customer”).

According to Valve, however, this function has now been updated so that developers can no longer accidentally make their games incompatible with the Steam Deck. Also, the company has announced that it is working with the developers who are still having trouble installing games even after the feature has been updated.
