At WWDC 2022, Apple introduced a new system for multitasking in the upcoming Ipad OS 16 called Stage Manager. The new type of multitasking makes it possible, among other things, to resize app windows, run more than two apps at the same time, which makes the iPad look more like a laptop.

With the release of the first beta version of Ipad OS 16, it also appears that the system requirements for Stage Manager mean that only a very small number of Apple’s iPad models will be able to use the new function. More specifically, an Ipad must have the M1 system circuit, which limits the functionality to, for example, the 2021 11-inch and 12.9-inch Ipad Pro and the 2022 Ipad Air 5.

This does not mean that only these models will be able to upgrade to Ipad OS 16. The operating system will work on all Ipad Pro models, Ipad Air which is the third generation or newer, and Ipad and Ipad mini which is the fifth generation or newer .

However, Stage Manager requires the M1 processor.
