During the keynote at WWDC 2022, Apple announced watchOS 9. As we expected, the company revealed that the new operating system will not be available for the Apple Watch Series 3.
Here’s what Apple said:
The watchOS 9 developer beta is available today to members of the Apple Developer Program at developer.apple.com . Next month, public testers will be able to test watchOS 9 on the website beta.apple.com. watchOS 9 will be finalized this fall as a free software update for Apple Watch Series 4 or later paired with iPhone 8 or later and iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later running iOS 16. Some features may may not be available in all regions, languages, or devices. Features are subject to change. For more information visit apple.com/watchos/watchos-preview.
watchOS 9 brings new customizable watch faces, an improved Workout app, sleep stages, and atrial fibrillation history.
The new operating system will also bring a new Medications app to remind and track medications. With the watchOS 9 update, Apple ended support for the Apple Watch Series 3. Based on that, here is the list of supported watchOS 9 devices:
- Apple Watch Series 4
- Apple Watch Series 5
- Apple Watch Series 6
- Apple Watch SE
- Apple Watch Series 7
