One USB-C port to charge them all and in the darkness bind them, this is the objective pursued for several years by the European Commission and the EU institutions. A new “trilogue” bringing together representatives of the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission will be held next Tuesday, 7 June therefore, to agree on a final proposal according to Reuters.
This will be the second and probably the last meeting between all these small people who want to accelerate the movement and amplify it beyond smartphones, tablets and “pocket electronic devices” (camera, headphones and audio headsets, game consoles laptops…). In April, it was the MEPs who voted for a universal charging port.

Laptops could also be part of the proposal – but unlike the iPhone and its Lightning port, all MacBooks can charge with a USB-C port (in addition to proprietary MagSafe on MacBook Pros). European lawmakers also want to harmonize wireless charging systems by 2025, while the universal charging port could be mandatory as early as 2024.
