Microsoft Edge was released this week in version 102 with no visible innovations. As it turns out, there is a new look under the hood, because the design adjustments for Windows 11 can be activated in this version.
These design changes, which include various new animations and transparency effects, are still in testing, so they’re still hidden. The corresponding flag, with which the option can be displayed in the settings, is now included in version 102 (via Neowin).
To activate the theme adapted to Windows 11, you have to proceed as follows:
- Enter edge://flags in the address bar
- Search for the #edge-visual-rejuv-show-settings entry
- Set the switch to “Enabled” and then restart the browser
In the Edge settings, you can now find two new switches in the “Appearance” area:
- Show Windows 11 visual effects in title bar and toolbar
- Using rounded corners for browser tabs
After activating these two switches, Edge has to be restarted again, then the new look will appear. I find them quite appealing and will probably keep them for the time being.
