Slack is launching a great feature for those who can’t pronounce their colleague’s name. If you’re still working from home or need to participate in multiple calls using the platform, there’s a better way to figure out how to say your colleague’s name.
According to The Verge, Slack is adding several new features to its user profiles.
New features include the ability to add pronunciation guides to names (by recording audio or adding phonetic spelling); new user interface pop-up user card that appears when you hover over someone’s name; and reorganized fields in user profiles, which have now been simplified to three modules: contact info, people (where you are located in your company’s organizational chart), and about me (customizable with things like communication language, start date, etc.) .
As you can see in the image of this post, users can learn a lot more about a colleague thanks to the new profile page.
Pronunciation guides and pop-up user cards should be available from today, though some changes may take weeks before they become available to all users, according to the publication.
Previously, Slack provided the ability to add pronouns to the profile page. This is a feature available on other platforms such as Instagram and we plan to follow this path in the future, for example on Twitter.
