The reason for the canceled last-gen versions

The last gen versions of Gotham Knights have been discontinued. In a recent question and answer session, the executive producer explained why the DC role-playing game isn’t coming out for the old consoles after all.

Originally, “Gotham Knights” was created as a cross-gen title announced. In the course of development, however, Warner Bros. decided to no longer consider the outdated last-gen consoles. We reported about this almost three weeks ago, where the publisher also 13 minutes of gameplay and new screenshots published.

As a result, Gotham Knights will only appear on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Fleur Marty, the executive producer, explained what prompted the development team to take this step. In a question and answer session on Discord, she addressed the last-gen waiver.

Priorities had to be set

“Considering the size and scope of Gotham Knights, we had to prioritize and focus our efforts on delivering the game at a satisfactory level of quality for the current generation.”

For PS4 and Xbox One players, Marty is sorry: “We totally understand that this is frustrating for players who don’t already own a current-gen console and believe me, we really didn’t make this decision lightly . But in the end we wanted to focus on delivering a game that we’re really proud of.”

Warner Bros. therefore decides against a larger reach in order to ensure high quality with sufficient content. A commendable decision by the American video game company.
