This Friday, the asteroid 7335 1989 JA is visiting us some 4 million kilometers away. The gigantic rock from the confines of our solar system falls into the category of near-Earth cruisers deemed “potentially dangerous”.
It is therefore a star whose trajectory crosses that of the Earth, the largest to pass near our planet in 2022. NASA has been monitoring the latter for a few years now since it was discovered in 1989 and is entered the CNEOS program (Center for the study of near-Earth objects).
The celestial body is moving at more than 76,000 km/h and orbiting the Sun, it measures about 1.8 km in diameter, which would make it a “world killer” in the event of a collision with our Earth.
Fortunately, it should pass to more than 10 times the distance separating the Earth from the Moon. Its proximity should allow scientists to observe it, its next passage was not planned before June 23, 2055.
