Although the main focus of Huawei’s software team has been on the development of the Hongmeng ecosystem, its experience in Android optimization in the past still shines, and even Android 13 will be used.
Esper reports that Google plans to make EROFS the default file system for Android 13 system partitions.
The full name of EROFS is Enhanced Read-Only File System (Extensible Read-Only File System). It was developed by Huawei and is called the Super File System. Starting from EMUI 9, a large number of Huawei models are loaded.
The main advantage is that the application starts faster, and the random read performance is improved by an average of 20% and a maximum of 300%.And it also has the advantage of saving space, avoiding stuttering in low memory situations, etc..
Since Linux 5.4, the EROFS file system has also been officially incorporated into the kernel.
Regarding the native Android support for the EROFS file system, it is expected to only affect those devices that are factory-installed with Android 13 and integrate the full Google GMS suite, and will not take effect for AOSP.
