Xiaomi and Leica Camera Companies announced about long-term cooperation. There are not many details about him. It is only known that the first fruit of their joint work will be presented in July 2022. It is not known exactly, but there is an assumption that it will be Xiaomi 12 Ultra.
In honor of this significant event, a photo of the main cones of both companies was published:
But what about Huawei?
Huawei and Leica Camera ended their partnership on March 31, 2022. This is reported in a press release that we have on hand. Thus, the cooperation lasted about seven years, since 2015.
In fact, rumors about the ceased cooperation with Huawei have been circulating for about a year now. There have even been questions about whether the P50 Pro will get a “Leica camera”.
The rumors started after the release of the Leica Leitz Phone 1, which was actually a redesigned Sharp smartphone, as well as a couple of tweaks in the camera software. By the way, we talked about it on our channel:
How productive is the collaboration?
Whether this cooperation is real or just mobile brands are promoting their camera phones in this way is almost impossible to say. In the world of gadgets, this topic is generally popular.
It all started with Nokia smartphones – the company partnered with Carl Zeiss, a manufacturer of photo and video optics. It happened back in zero.
Then a major partnership was announced by Leica Camera and Huawei in 2015. The partnership ended in March this year.
Around the same time, the infamous collaboration between Motorola and the Swedish company Hasselblad, known for its medium format cameras, began and almost immediately ended. Then the logo of this company appeared on a special Hasselblad True Zoom photomodule for the Moto Z smartphone:
This module received a 12 megapixel camera with a tenfold optical zoom. The topic is cool and wildly interesting, but, unfortunately, the implementation was so bad that things didn’t go beyond this module.
Some time later, the Chinese company DJI, which produces drones, bought a controlling stake in Hasselblad. Since then, the logo of the Swedish brand began to appear on drones:
Later, the Hasselblad logo appeared on OnePlus smartphones, and then on OPPO:
Another “daughter” of BBK Corporation, vivo, partners with Carl Zeiss:
There are also rumors that Samsung is in talks with Olympus to work on a smartphone camera. This was reported Sammobile even a year ago. However, it is not known whether the negotiations led to anything.
In general, there is an opinion among photographers that if a company logo appears on a smartphone, it means that this very company is not doing well. With Zeiss and Hasselblad, it’s a pretty straightforward story. They are very in place money from the partnership.
On the other hand, Leica is not at all afraid of various marketing solutions that help increase brand awareness.
There are no details about Xiaomi 12 Ultra yet. It is known that this smartphone, apparently, will receive the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus system-on-a-chip, introduced last week.
