Our regular readers should not have missed the fact that it has been remarkably quiet here since the middle of the week and that I haven’t read anything at all. You can see the reason for this above: After more than two years of the corona pandemic, it has now caught me too.

Everything points to a mild course, but the last few days have not been particularly nice. The first symptoms appeared on Tuesday, when the test was still negative, on Wednesday I felt worse and then the test also showed up. As befits a real man, I made my peace with the world on Wednesday evening with a fever of 39 degrees.

Jokes aside: I was always careful, but at the same time I didn’t have the illusion that I would be spared, sooner or later it’s our turn. Not least because of the existing triple vaccination, I was basically optimistic that it wouldn’t be that bad if it did happen. On Wednesday, when I felt worse by the hour and the fever kept rising, I was worried. Wrongly so, as it quickly turned out, because basically things have been on the up again since Thursday, albeit slowly. I’ll probably have to slow down a few days.

How I got infected is not without a certain irony. When it comes to Corona, I would put myself in the category of those who prefer to be a little too cautious. I have always observed all protective measures and only used the freedoms that have been offered since spring to a limited extent. When the invitation to a media event with personal attendance came in at the end of April, I first thought about whether I really wanted to go there, but finally I said to myself “at some point you have to do it again”. Two rides in the full ICE and an event in a comparatively small room full of people without masks later I’m hanging out here…

I still didn’t have the thought “I would have preferred to have stayed at home”, because as I said, since practically all protective measures were abolished, it’s almost a done deal that sooner or later we’ll all get infected. The time is determined solely by coincidence, instead of in Hamburg I could have been infected at home, because my wife works in retail. So far she has been spared.

Podcast and video are canceled this weekend, the voice is still a bit damaged. But soon everything will be back to normal here.
