In recent years, messenger users are increasingly using not only text or calls to communicate, but also various types of media files. Photos, pictures from the Internet, postcards, GIF animations, stickers, video files – all this allows you to diversify communication and more accurately express emotions or convey the atmosphere.

However, all this has a downside – the memory of the smartphone is clogged very quickly. A few months later, some WhatsApp can take up several gigabytes of memory, and we don’t need most of this data at all. In this text, I will talk about four ways to free memory from garbage in WhatsApp.

1. Cleanup in the Media Library

You can delete extra media files sent to us in a separate folder in the iPhone Media Library. Open Photos and find the WhatsApp album. Here you can select everything and delete, then empty the Recently Deleted folder.

2. Cleaning inside chats

Removing from the gallery means cleaning everything in a row without parsing and classifying. But what if you only want to clear chats with specific people and keep others? To remove media from specific chats:

  • Open WhatsApp and select the desired chat
  • Click on the person’s name or phone number
  • Find and select the line “Media, links and documents”
  • Here you can click “Select” in the upper corner, mark all unnecessary and delete. Please note that the interlocutor will keep all these files.

3. Storage Manager

WhatsApp provides the ability to delete the cache, stickers and other garbage inside the application. For this:
Open WhatsApp → Settings → Data & Storage → Manage Storage
View what your device’s memory is doing by categories and chats, and delete everything you don’t need.

4. Radical cleaning

It is divided into three steps.

  • The first is to delete all trashed chats. For example, a particular person often sends you postcards or videos that you do not want to keep. To clear the device’s memory of this goodness, simply delete the chat with this person. Subsequently, you can write to him again – or the chat will appear along with the next postcard.
  • The second is to delete all chats at once, along with all their contents. To do this, open “Settings” → “Chats” and select “Clear all chats” or “Delete all chats”. In the first case, only the history of correspondence will be deleted, and in the second, the list of chats will be physically cleared.
  • The third is to uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp. Yes, this will also help clean everything at once. Just do not forget to restart your smartphone before reinstalling the messenger.
