Aye! All AirTag owners should now benefit from the new firmware numbered 1.0.391 (build 1A301) replacing version 1.0.291 (build 1A291e). You can check it in the Locate app, by touching the area under the name of the beacon but only on iOS, oddly the macOS app does not offer anything like this.

This new internal software was spotted on April 26, but not all users are in the same boat. For some reason, Apple is rolling out AirTag updates in stages: 1% of tracker owners received the new software version the day it was released, 10% received it on May 3, 25% on May 9 and today, Friday May 13, 100% of them had to get it back.

The main novelty listed on this help sheet Apple is concerned with adjusting the sound in case of unwanted tracking: the tone has been changed to increase the volume and make it easier to spot the snitch.
