Sony has officially unveiled the flagship full-size headphones WH-1000XM5 with an updated design and other improvements.
Sony has replaced the XM4’s closed temples with open arms that connect to larger cups. Despite the changes in design, the weight of the headphones has not changed much – XM5 weigh 250 grams, and XM4 – 254 grams. The company has also ditched the folding mechanism used on the XM4, making the XM5 look more like the Apple AirPods Max.
The new headphones offer up to 30 hours of battery life on a single charge with Active Noise Canceling enabled and 40 hours without it. A full charge takes 3 hours.
The headset is equipped with eight noise-canceling microphones, new LDAC-enabled 30mm drivers for high-resolution audio transmission. In addition, the headphones support Sony 360 Reality Audio spatial sound.
The Sony WH-1000XM5 headset will be available from May 20 for $399.
